Walmart is currently the largest company in the world. The American retail company generated a staggering $524 billion in revenue in 2019. This number is even more impressive if you consider that Walmart does not operate worldwide. For example, it has a rather thin presence in Europe. But the Arkansas-based company founded by Sam Walton in 1962 is by far the most popular supermarket in the Americas, contributing the bulk of Walmart's half a trillion sales last year. Employing more than 2 million people worldwide, Walmart is also the largest private employer in the world.

Sinopec is the world's second largest company by revenue. China's state-owned oil company is part of both the world's largest producer of refined oil as well as gas.
