"White Christmas", performed by American singer Bing Crosby (real name Harry Crosby), is the best-selling song in history. Crosby, who died in 1977, has sold about 52 million copies of the song to date. The song was written by Russian-American composer Irving Berlin (real name Israel Beilin). Although Berlin is Jewish, he wrote the song in 1940 as an homage to the snowy Christmases he knew growing up in New York City. Berlin at Christmas time in California is warm, reminiscing about the white houses he used to be in New York.
The song was later used by Bing Crosby for the NBC radio show's Christmas Day special the following year. Crosby performed the song in front of a live audience and received rave reviews for it. A few months later, he decided to turn the song into a single and the rest is history.
For Bing Crosby, the release of White Christmas also marked the beginning of Crosby's legendary status as the world's most successful performer of Christmas songs. Crosby's version of "Silent Night", an old Austrian Christmas carol from the 19th century, is also in the Top 10 best-selling songs of all time.

The song was released in January 2017 and was an instant hit. At the 60th Annual Grammy Awards, the song won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance.

Elton John's "Candle in the Wind" is the fourth best-selling song of all time. The song was originally written in 1973 by the British singer herself along with British lyricist Bernie Taupin. It was originally an homage to American actress and singer Marlyn Monroe. The original song was popularized again later.
However, in 1997 John and Taupin rewrote and re-recorded the song, and Elton John used the new version of the song at the funeral of Lady Diana Spencer, Princess of Wales. This new homage to the beloved princess became a global phenomenon and sold some 33 million copies worldwide. In some countries, the single also included the song "Something About the Way You Look Tonight" as a double A-side.
